This week, Infinity Ward (the developers of the Call of Duty series of games) were visited by a couple of bouncers sent by their publishers, Activision, and the studio was put under a strict security lockdown.

The next twenty four hours were chaotic. Two of the lead developers were sacked for "breach of contract and insubordination," there were rumors that Activision hadn't been paying royalties to Infinity Ward, and that the two fired developers had been speaking to another publisher. The news that Activision had hired another studio to work on the Call of Duty series led many to speculate that the franchise was being taken away from Infinity Ward.

At the end of the day, when the dust had settled, the whole thing began to feel like the final act in Hamlet...

Wow that is strange. On a side note I love MWF2 for the Xbox. You play?

Yeah, but I've got it on the PS3. It's okay, I found the single player campaign a bit hit-and-miss, and I appear to have a textbook abusive relationship with the multiplayer: I know it treated like crap all the other times I played with it, but I keep going back because, dammit, next time might be different!

The lines are from the final scene in Hamlet, after a massive cull of all the lead characters...

For some reason this just sprung to mind following Infinity Ward's bumpy patch this week.

It's a really bizarre series of occurrences, really. Activision sent a couple of bouncers into their offices on Monday night and seemingly put the whole studio under lockdown. Next morning, Infinity Ward's two lead developers were out of a job.

The two have since launched a lawsuit against Activision because the studio allegedly was not paid royalties for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and it's believed that Activision fired them because they had started talking to another publisher.
