It's the mark of the Ten Rings, the Mandarin's terrorist organisation (the same group that captured Tony in Afghanistan).

If you look closely, that symbol appears in both Iron Man 1 and 2.:D

Oh, him. I was wondering when they were going to use him as the Villain-'o-the-Week. Isn't he like Iron Man's arch-nemesis or something? I mean sure, you don't get to include any of the corporate drama that you'd get with Obidiah or Hammer, but nobody watches Iron Man for corporate drama anyway.
